Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum has won the NPU award for 2017, in the category Next practice! The award is presented to the cultural institution in Norway that has «the most innovative and ambitious practices - practices that at the moment haven't proven themselves, but will be closely followed in the years to come».

Breaking new ground
With this award, the museum is recognized by Norsk Publikumsutvikling (Audiences Norway) as a groundbreaking institution of national importance in arts and culture in Norway. Our ongoing work, especially with the museum performance Sámi Dáiddamusea, is recognized as the most innovative and ambitious in 2017.

The jury presents the award to Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum for «...the ambitions the museum has for developing its role in the community, and the work being done to increase visibility and engagement. (...) We're looking forward to following the museum's work in the coming years, in materializing the visions for a user-centric museum for the future, who activates the collection in new ways, and thus comes closer to the community.»

Proud director
Director Jérémie M. McGowan says he and the museum are very grateful, and that he hopes the audience and Northern Norway is as proud as he is. He emphasizes the team effort put down by the employees to create a living and open museum:

- We will continue to take our audience seriously in the years to come, and we hope to create new and even better museum experiences together in the future, he says.

Thank you
We wish to give a big thank you to RiddoDuottarMuseat, The Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts, The Arctic Arts Festival and Anchorage Museum for great collaboration in 2017. We send our biggest congratulations to the other award winners and nominees. We're thrilled to be in such great company.
